I keep both the male and female in harnesses so that I have a "handle" on them and can control their position and give the boy a lift if he needs it.
Finally, I did have a breeding female who had a blockage and could not be bred.

We tried that all! Believe me, I had no dignity left after all this. Well, at least the dogs didn't. Although they didn't seem to mind. We tried the folded towel, we tried helping, we tried not helping.... nothing seemed to work. Although, I will say, the one time they did tie, they did it on their own.
