The Stow and Go's are the best! I've tried others and there's no comparison for safety and durability. I've been using one for 4 years now and it's still like new. I used a coupler and hooked both my Yorkies in it. I have a friend who fits three Yorkies in it. However, I recently bought a second one so they can each have their own. Daisy likes to lay down as soon as we get into the car and she was pretty scrunched up trying to do that in her half.
I use the suitcase beneath it for boost, since I have an SUV. They ride in the back seat of my Honda Element. The suitcase has a quick open front drawer which is great for stowing leashes, cleanup bags, coats and I keep first aid stuff in there too. I've never taken it apart and used it as a travel bed when you get to your destination, but you could.
