I didn't see the segment on tv but I have heard some horror stories about dogs being burned by the blow dryers being too hot. Most of the professional groomers won't let me inspect their premises but some of them have the plate glass windows where I can watch. The dogs look like the blowdryers are very hot. I groom my own dogs and I know they are still at risk for being burned but the percentage is miniscule compared to the groomers business.
Another thing is their toenails. When Pirogue was a young puppy, I took him to a groomer who worked out of her home and she not only cut one of his nails too short, she also cut one of his ears. I can not blame her for the cut on his ear because they will move at the wrong time. I have cut ears many times, I hate it but it happens. On the other hand, I can honestly say that I have never seriously cut a toenail too short. But Pirogue, now 4 yo, still has a fit when I try to trim his nails.
I took one of my dogs to the vet to have the toenails trimmed, they also cut too short. I won't let anyone else do their nails from now on, so I have just decided to do it all myself.
