I have yet to oil my dogs coats as I am a nervous wreck about doing it right. I was told however and I could be wrong but that when oiling a dogs coat to be extremely careful about getting the oil on their skin. If you get too much oil on their skin the body stops producing the natural oils in the skin and cause their coats to dry out, etc. I had a friend who oiled her dog who had a beautiful coat and she got too much on the skin and her coat all started coming in dried out and all broke off eventually. I have no idea if this has anything to do with what you have been through and it sounds terrible. Just a little something I was told and thought I would share.
