There is no comparison between Cancun and Hawaii. Cancun is definitely cheaper, but it is very commercial and they beauty cannot compare to Hawaii at all.

Of course I'm a little biased, so I would ask which island? Maui is my personal favorite followed by the Big Island of Hawaii. Kauaii is beautiful but boring unless you are a very outdoor active individual into hiking/kayaking/golfing every day (and there is no nightlife if you aren't at a major hotel resort as the shops and restaurants all close really early). Oahu is not my favorite, but still head and shoulders above Cancun and definitely worth $800 for a timeshare rental........

Plus an added bonus of Hawaii would be that in late December you are likely to see whales, especially on Maui or the Big Island...... My vote would definitely be for Hawaii as a honeymoon. Much more special than Cancun!!!
