I'm not a vet but I've dealt with the gurgling mucous problem now for 9 years. I believe I posted before that this sounds like a classic case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However, regardless of whether it is or is not you will never get to the botton of it if you don't narrow down the dog's diet to just the IVD or ID. That means nothing else added, no treats, supplements etc. Only after the situation has calmed down for a period of time should you add anything and only add one thing at a time. If all is well for two weeks then you can consider adding something else.

I feed mine ID for treats as well. She gets the wet ID for meals and the dried as treats. She doesn't know her treat isn't the same as what the others get. This and prednisone have been the only things that have kept her episodes to a minimum. Her IBS is so severe that the vets did not expect her to survive for many years. She is now 12 years old.
