At least the micro chip offers some measure of proof.
My lawyer wouldn't only be working on the return of my dog...there'd be some communication sent to that micro chip company too.
That aside...I have often said...if someone wants to keep your dog...they will, regardless if it's micro chipped or has a collar with tags. It all still depends on their honesty.
