Default [News] Big Dog Drama Unfolds Over Ownership Of NYC Yorkie

Imagine losing your dog, then spotting it just a day later with another family. That's what one Bronx woman says happened to her. She even got arrested trying to get her beloved pet back.

Big dog drama in the Bronx over a tiny Yorkie; two families are in a tug of war, both sides claiming ownership.

One day after Yorkie Princess Ivy bolted through the front door of her families home, a similar looking dog wandered into a nearby Laundromat.

Kylea Lester is convinced the dog captured in the Laundromat's surveillance video is Ivy. The surveillance video shows the dog going in and out, then a man, woman and a young boy leaving with it.

"Now they're walking out with the dog. Yep, that's the dog," Lester said as she watched the surveillance video.

Kylea's attorney and public defender, Jenay Nurse, is also convinced the dog is in fact hers.

"It's very conclusive in my mind that this dog is hers," said Nurse.

A few days later, Lester was arrested. She says she was just trying to take the dog back from a woman identified as Deneen Williams.

To get to the bottom of it, CBS 2 went to Williams' apartment. Although there was no response from her, Lester's attorney says she can prove the dog's ownership with receipts from the breeder, vet bills and the micro-chip registration. Police checked the chip, but it came back to Williams. Lester's attorney says there's an explanation.

"They were able to say the dog was registered two weeks ago and the registration changed," said Nurse.

"She switched it from our names on the chip to hers," added Kylea.

Police say the matter is an issue for civil court.
