Well, both my dogs have to go at night. Marcel is 3.4 lbs. - and he uses his stairs to get off the bed and then uses a pad. Wylie is 7.5 and he has always had to go potty once at night. If we hear him, we let him out. If we don't, he uses the pad.
As for the itching - it could be seasonal this time of year - or it could be food; what are you feeding?
