I'm lucky that Bailey never barked needlessly - but I saw a post on here a few months ago (about barking) that I thought was a good idea:

When he barks - go to the scene like you're concerned, observe and then reassure him that its all okay. Then he'll associate "okay" with reassurance.

I've also heard about shaking a pop can with pennys or spray bottles to discipline. Others might have some other ideas, too. But I think its best to nip it in the bud before it gets uncontrollable.
