1. put her fav treat (nibble portion) at the front of the crate. then gradually put one in the crate, then in the middle, then in the back, etc. as she goes IN the crate "praise her", say nothing when she come back out tho.
2. try #1 a few times, then later in the day try it again but this time close the door and keep feeding her treats through the gate.
3. leave her in there for like 3 mins. and gradually do throughout the day and then maybe the next day leave for like 10 mins then let her out.
Does she cry to just be let out? where does she go to sleep if she is let out? You may want to consider putting her crate in the bedroom. With my puppy we put her crate on the bed itself. Shes in her crate which will not disrupt our sleep yet shes happy she has company and doesnt cry.
hope this helps if at all. i understand ur dog is an adult, so not sure if this wil help. |
Thanks for the advice, we tried that already and it didn't work. Last night we lost the battle, she caved in her metal crate and got out, so we just let her sleep under the bed. I notice she's been peeing on one of the sides of the dinning room, so I might just put pads there and let her be. I'm considering litter training, but I don't know if it will work. During the day I put her in the crate when I go to work for about 3 hours, then she out the rest of the day. We go to bed around 9 p.m. and are up by 4:45 a.m. she out of the crate no later than 5 a.m. and I take her outside to potty asap, before I go to work at around 8:30 a.m. I take her out again for a walk, then when I get home we walk her again. then at night. I don't know what to do, I really want to crate train her again.
