Dew claws are the extra toe on the side. The pups would be in danger with sedation. It only takes a couple of minutes to do this process with each pup. Many, many dogs get the dew claws removed as they can get ripped off later in life and cause a lot of pain. Some are left with dew claws on if they are to be used for agility work someone on here said once. My mom's pups never cried when hers got done this time. I always have it done on day three. She had hers done on day four, so I may try that next time. The babies are back to normal in a few hours. As I have said, I dread this part. In addition, a Boxer pup has to get his ears cropped. I am sooooo thankful that the Yorkie doesn't have to go through that.
