Default Hello, we're New

Hello, I have browsed the forum a few times, but never took the time to register until today.
I have two Yorkies, one being on the very large side (20lbs), his name is Willie, and I also have a 5 month old little girl Chloe, who is about 6 lbs. I love them to pieces!
I wanted to post today because I can tell how much everyone here loves their "kids" and even though I'm sure all of you take wonderful care of your little ones, I wanted to remind everyone to be very careful during these terrible heatwaves a large portion of the Country is experiencing.
My best friend lost her little 7 yr old Yorkie yesterday, and is so upset with herself. He was a bit larger Yorkie and loved to play out in the yard with her other dogs, so she let him out to play yesterday morning around 7am, he had fresh water, and shade, she brought him in around 8:30 because it was really heating up, and also alot of humidity. She said he seemed fine when she put him in the bedroom, (she has a home daycare) and parts of her day gets crazy and she doesn't want her small dogs to get hurt. He was fine at that time, but when she came back a couple hours later to check on him, she found his lifeless body in his crate where he had went in. She was just devastated. The vet checked him over and after ruling out everything else, he believes he died from heat stroke.
She feels so guilty, and can't believe she let him over heat. Her and I talk about people who leave dogs in cars on warm days, and we get so angry at them, and now she feels she was just as stupid.

I thought I needed to tell everyone here about this sad tragedy, because it can happen so suddenly and dogs are like kids, they don't realize how hot and thirsty they are when they are busy playing and having fun.
I'm sure alot of you have tiny Yorkies who don't venture out much, but I for one have the larger ones, and I do let them play outside at times. In the future I will certainly pay more attention to the temps and humidity.

Sorry this is so long. I enjoy reading the forum, and looking at all of the cuties here! Thanks for having us, and I will have to read up on how to post pics, so i can introduce Willie and Chloe!
