No, the ends do not have the wire mesh. Its also an open top. The back end is closed and the front end can be zipped up close or folded and buttoned so they can rest their head on it. The outside pocket is extremely useful! I don't have to carry a second purse, I just use those credit card wallets and can stash my keys and their leash and everything fits in there. I'm now hunting for an lv leash to match this.
