Hookworms can be transmitted from the mother OR since you live in the country...it's more likely Baxter is getting them from coming in contact with the larve in the ground. The eggs are laid in their digestive tract then released in poop...then develop into larve. The larve can penetrate the skin directly through the feet, belly or whatever part of the skin is touching the ground. Another way to gain entry is to be present in soil that is licked and swallowed by the the dog when it licks himself.

Btw, and I'm sorry for this ewww factor...but it's possible for YOU to get hookworms from him.
That's very interesting, I didn't know they could enter through the skin.
