I would say get yours neuter as well. My Duke is still recovering, his surgery was this past Friday. Duke got chipped too.
He did bounce back the next day but we are still keeping the cone on him to avoid the licking.

It is a sad thing to see them suffer, I wanted to cry when I went to pick him up. The thing is though, I had to make sure that someone is with him most if not all of the time after that so that he's not pulling the cone off and licking the area.
