Cowboy Magic detangler works great on tangles and mats. Most puppies have problems with some tangles, and Cowboy Magic works great. I would use it before a bath and brush followed by a comb close to the skin to be sure all mats were out. Never wet hair until all mats are out because they will be harder to remove after they get wet. I had problem under Joey's arms and his chest area with he was a puppy. After bathing and using a conditioner, I would add a tiny amount of Cowboy Magic to this area. Removing mats is slow work, and some dogs have to be shaved. When a dog is matting it means that you need to take more care to brush everyday, and always follow with a comb. This is especially true after wearing clothes. If you don't have any Cowboy Magic, I would use a good hair conditioner before bathing and try to break the mat up with thumb and fingers rubbing in a circular motion, comb starting close to the end of the hair getting closer and closer to the skin. They also sale dematting combs, but this does rip out the mat and the hair, and probably should only be done as a last resort. Some people recommend combs with flexible teeth.
