That is exactly what I am doing with Toby right now, short leashed walks...and I find if I walk real slow he is more apt to put some pressure on it...

I also think the degree of damage/detioration of the hip also makes a difference as to how soon they walk on the leg... .. or at least that is what I have seen... those that held the leg up prior to the surgey takes longer for them to walk on after the surgery...

Toby had his operation on Wed and is not walking on the leg yet..and I am not worried yet...if he is still not putting any pressure on the leg by Wed which will then be a week..I will be bringing him to the vet to be on the safe side...

But yes it is impotant to get them to walk on the leg...
