I have found that it varies with the dog, and maybe the degree of the surgery/hip...I just fostered a dog who had that operation and she used her leg right away...
I currently have a foster who just had the surgery on Wed and he is still not using his leg...
Was he holding the leg up before the operation? My current foster was..so I think some of it is habit too...I am taking him for slow walks trying to get him to put some pressure on the leg..when he moves faster he automatically puts it right up....
Does he put it down when he is standing?
