Eight weeks is a little too young to separate a Yorkie from its mom and litter mates.See if your breeder will hold the puppy for a couple extra weeks. Twelve weeks is recommended but the really small ones may need to stay even longer. When you get your puppy, making sure he/she eats properly is the most important thing. Sometimes it takes a bit for the puppy to feel comfortable enough in its new home to eat. With these little ones, you cannot let them go without eating. Make sure you have some nutri-cal on hand when your new puppy comes to live with you. You will want to keep your puppy on whatever the breeder was using to avoid stomach upset. If you decide to change the food later, transition slowly to the new food. You have a few weeks before getting him so take that time to get ready. You'll want to have all your supplies on hand and also to puppy proof your home. Also, take some time to read some threads here. You'll see many where people have trouble getting their new puppy to eat and what can be done about it. BTW, welcome to YorkieTalk. Good luck with your new puppy. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. It's so important to make sure you're prepared and that everything goes smoothly when bringing a new puppy home.
