The one I use has straps in the back to run the seatbelt through it, but I actually prefer to run the seatbelt all the way around it and tuck it in a groove. It seems to secure it better.

Unless you have an airbag that you can turn off in front, keep the car seat in the back. The air bag could kill a small dog.
