I just came from the vet and the doctor says that everything seems fine. I just don't know... Spookie (Mommy) is doing great, she had handled herself like a true pro at birthing. I found out that I have two baby boys!!!!
My concern with all of this is that the second baby is smaller and he seems to cry so much... he does not seem to latch on to his mommy for breastfeeding as well as the bigger baby does. The tiny one just wants to lie and cry the entire time.
Yesterday, as per someone's advice, I went ahead called the vet and made an appoint... I was told to buy formula for the babies becuase mom was not producing milk and to feed mom vanilla ice cream. So I went to Petsmart and bought the recommended items as well as a heating pad. Today to my surprise mommy is producing plenty of milk and the bigger baby has an excellent rooting reflex, but the little one is raising many concerns upon me...????
Does anyone know if this is normal behavior? Is there any advice as to what I should do?
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!
You will have to try to make him latch on. One trick is to put a little salvia on your finger and rub the mom's teat with it then put the baby to it and open his little mouth then shut it around it. Or you can squeeze a little milk out to the end of the teat and put him on it. if he is really small, he may be too weak to latch on and you will have to supplement him but be very careful. it is very easy to give the babies aspiration pneumonia and that will kill them. is the baby warm? never try to feed a cold puppy.
