Also you might try a spray bottle with water. Sit it close by you and when he goes toward the table say "NO" and spray him. Its amazing how soon they realize they can't do that. And they don't like the spray of water on them. We do that for barking and all you have to do is tell them and pick up the bottle at times. They never have to be sprayed anymore.
