Are your dogs overweight?
If they're not, then you probably aren't overfeeding.
When Ellie ate kibble (free fed), she would eat about 1/2 cup per day. She was just over 5 pounds and that is underweight for her.
With wet food, since most of it is moisture they will eat tons more.
It depends on the food and the dog's metabolism.
Ellie doesn't get tons of exercise but she is wirey/high strung and her metabolism is very fast.
