The only ear solution I would say to have on hand would be the drying type to use after a bath. Just use cotton balls and not Q-Tips.
As for nail cutters, if you have never cut dog nails then I'd suggest going to the Vet. and ask them to show you how cut nails and what type of nail clipper to use.
Congratulations on getting a new family member. Male or female? Have you chosen a name? You should get someone to give you a puppy shower.
