TULSA, Okla. - Police have released the name of the baby who they say was mauled to death by a puppy on Monday morning. The victim was identified as two-month old Zane Alen Earles.
The black Labrador Retriever puppy suspected of killing the baby boy was euthanized at the Tulsa Animal Shelter on Monday at the request of police.
Police and animal shelter staff took photographs of the puppy but it's not clear if officials also took bite impressions.
A pug and two cats were also removed from the home. They're being held at the Tulsa Animal Shelter at 3031 N. Erie Avenue.
EMSA was called to a home near Evanston and 102nd Place in Tulsa on Monday morning. Paramedics said the baby boy was dead when they arrived. Tulsa Police were then called to the scene.
Investigators say the baby's mother and grandmother were at home when the mauling took place. The baby's father had left for work at 8:00 on Monday morning. Police tell the News On 6 that the baby's grandfather had placed the child in the swing and then left the home around 8:30 a.m.
Officers say the infant was left unattended in the swing but was not closed in a room with the dog.
The Tulsa County Medical Examiner says the cause of death is still pending.
