I think you will find that custom-made harness vests are made with heavy-duty velcro. At least, the one's that I have were made that way. I've had to pick Kacee up by the leash (through the air) before to protect her. Believe me! It held! I also use the harnesses that span the chest like the Freedom harnesses. I like both kind. I really like harness vests, but I like the harnesses, like the Freedom, for really hot weather. Just be sure that the D-rings on any harness vests you buy are solid and don't have a split in them. The leash can pull through the split and tragedy can result. Good luck in whatever you decide.
