The breed standard, written by Mr. Biewer in 1989, is the same as that of the Yorkshire Terrier, with the exception of the colour requirement. The exact colour and pattern requirements vary among the different Biewer clubs. According to the BYTNC the standard is:
"Height: Up to 22 cm (8.66 inches) in height and a weight of about 3.1 kg (6.83 pounds)."
