I live across the street from the beach. All my Yorkies have swam. The problem is the sand and the salt water. You have to give them a bath when you get home and the salt water can burn their eyes. If you want to see your yorkie swim just fill up your bathtub and he will start treading water. You can put a rubber toy in the bathtub to coax him. Yes I have done this. It is fun as long as the yorkie is enjoying himself and not panicking. I even had one yorkie that if you said bath he jumped into the bathtub. That is how much he loved water.
