Well, any dog that's feels 'heavy' probably is eating too much for their size and activity level. There's a feeding guideline on the bag you can refer to but it's only a guide. Dogs with a lower activity level need less than an active dog. Purina isn't a great food and that may be part of the problem. It's full of fillers so dogs tend to eat more of it because they're never really as satisfied as they would be with a more nutrient dense food. Better food can be more economical than the cheaper brands because you'll feed less of it to your dog. Check dogfoodanalysis.com and compare the recommended amount to feed with your brand and some premium brands. There's a review section there that reviews most every brand out there; it's very informative. Also, remember that you have to count any treats as part of their intake. Lots of treats are high in fat so that can be part of the problem. Seems also that you may be giving a lot of canned with the dry. I only use about 2 or 3 tablespoons of canned for a 6 pounder along with their dry added to it. Hope this helps.
