I am very proud to say that my son Derek, at the age of 11, donated 11 inches to Locks of Love. It took him 5 years to grow his hair long enough to donate. When he was six, he saw a young bald boy at a basketball game. After I explained why the boy didn't have any hair and told him about the Locks of Love program, he started to grow his out so he could donate it. When we moved and he had to attend a new school, kids made fun of him for his long hair. One boy constantly teased him but Derek never gave up.
When the day came for him to cut his hair, the local news crew interviewed him and taped the hair cut. He didn't tell his classmates about the hair cut so he could surprise them. Boy, were they surprised! His teacher taped the news report and Derek was a celebrity for a day in his class. |
