That's true, 10 weeks is too young to sleep in your bed. You could roll on them without even feeling it! No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen.
Also, he has a tiny little bladder, he probably can't hold it all night. Consider doing night time potty breaks. I had to with Scooter until he was 14 weeks old.
Also they get used to the crate really quickly, it becomes their 'safe place.' Scooter uses his all the time, not just at night. He crawls in to take a nap whenever he wants. Otherwise the ex-pen is a good idea.
