They can make really fun pets. They are always on the move and love to steal stuff....especially shiny things. Then tend to "hide" everything in the same spots though, so as long as you learn where those are you will quickly be able to find your missing items. They are very comical and will keep you laughing for hours. As already mentioned, they do have a smell to them. With regular bathing, it isn't too bad, but they will always have a musty smell.

Overall, I think that they make great pets. I would recommend getting one of the larger, multi-story cages so that they have plenty of room to run and play when they aren't out. I litter box trained both of mine, which made cleaning super easy both in and out of the cage. As with all pets, I would search out a breeder so that you know you are getting one that has had a lot of human contact and will want to be a part of the family. Good luck in your decision.
I agree with everything above. I had a female albino ferret named Cali Rose for over six years and she was a very sweet little pet. Some people feed them cat food, but it's better to give them ferret food formulated for them. You do need to be aware that they can get through very tiny openings and you will have to ferret proof any area where you want to let it out of its cage. They can climb anything and will dig in flower pots. They steal anything they can carry and will hide it. The females don't have as strong a smell as the males. My little female only had a faint musty smell when she needed a bath. She had cancer and I had to have her put down on July 1. They are prone to getting cancer and adrenal gland disease. Getting two so they have a playmate is good, but they don't bond as much with you if you get two of them. They do require attention and interaction. They are fun and mischevous and very lively. If you get a young one and handle it and treat it gently, it will be very tame and love to interact with humans. You can't get one and leave it in its cage and expect it to be a tame and gentle pet. My Cali Rose was allowed to be out of her cage every evening for an hour or two and she would go back to her cage and use her litter pan if she needed to go potty. They will use a litter pan, just like cats. Ferrets are noctournal. They sleep most of the day and get active in the evening. They are good pets for people who work and are gone all day. They sleep while you're gone and are up and active in the evening when you're home to give them attention. Cali Rose was a favorite with my granddaughters and my nephew's kids and everyone who met her fell in love with her. I loved her a lot and miss her whiskers tickling my face while she sniffled my face and put little ferret nose prints on my glasses. I highly recommend a ferret if you're willing to do everything necessary to care for them and keep them safe.
