There was another thread sometime back about something similar. Parvo is extremely contagious, and sometimes towns have outbreaks of it. The dog doesn't need to go outside the yard to get it because birds can carry it. It also can be carried on shoes, and brought in the house. I was told that yearly shots are necessary, so taking your dogs to the vet yearly is a must. It's a terrible disease and expensive to treat, so call your vet or check your records to see if your dog has been immunized within the past year. Never expose your dog to a dog with the virus, dogs are still contagious 2 months after treatment, and the virus can live in the ground for 1 year and survive freezing temperatures. The only thing that kills it is bleach. |
