  Also be sure to ask your vet to use Isoflurane for the anesthesia during the surgery.  It is more expensive so they might charge you for that too, however it is the best especially for small breed dogs.  This is the only one my vet uses now.  It ends up not being absorbed by the blood, but works its way out through the lungs so dogs wake up sooner after it is stopped and recover from it much better.
 Also, you can ask to have the vet do the intubation instead of the vet tech.  They might think you are paranoid, but I think better safe than sorry.
 
 Finally, Tini recovered quickly.  The first night she was really out of it and wouldn't even come out of her crate for a couple of hours.  Then she just wanted me to hold her.  The second day she was still a little bit slow and not wanting to play, but on the third day I was having to make sure she didn't jump up and get too hyper.  That was the hard part.
 
 I know how hard it is to go through this process, I was a wreck.  Be sure to get a vet that you trust and have a good relationship with.....it makes it so much easier!
