I use the Royal Canin Pro small breed puppy, it comes in a breeder pack so it's not quite like the breed specific. I switch the puppies to adult maintenance as early as I can to maintain slow growth.
The super premium foods can cause the bones to grow faster but not the muscle. When the bones grow too fast the muscle and cartilage can't hold the joints in proper alignment. If this continues until the growth plates close the damage is permanent. ("The Puppy Puzzle" Bob & Pat Hastings)
I haven't had a nutrition related problem since I started using Royal Canin. Having a breeding program that is in balance and experiencing very few problems is something I feel very fortunate to have. While I respect the reviewers, I'm not willing to risk something that works.
