At the age of 7, I don't know how to correct the behavior. If you're home during the day, you could take them out every hour and watch them like a hawk. You are going to have to clean the spots on the carpet with an enzymatic cleaner to remove any odor which would bring them back to those areas. If you ever see them going on the carpet, then you must correct them on the spot and take them immediately outside.
