Ugggg not sure where to even start! Last monday she started having itching issues. It was between her shoulder blades on her back. Took her to vet he thought allergic reaction and said benedryl every 6 hours and hylte shampoo (think thats the name) well it then spread to her arm pits and sides...she dug so hard at these she wore blood blisters on her skin.
Seasonal allergies are in the back of my mind at this point but she wasnt biting feet or licking (yet) so I bought into the reaction thing. Well Benedryl stopped working on her and back to itching. Now she is starting on her feet alittle and going for the butt area also. Back to the vet....now we are given 1mg of prednisone a day and benedryl every 6 hours. Worked for a day then Saturday night she went CRAZY itching BAD BAD BAD!!! I was up all night with her and felt HORRIBLE hair clumps were flying and she was running and pacing and biting and itching...licking....ugggggg
So to a new vet we go, ours isnt open on sundays...This vet also says reaction type allergy and says ween her off prednisone and gave her Chlorpheniramine half a pill 2-3 times a day as needed. So far its working but Bella is SO SAD!!! she has a half of a prednisone left and Im afraid that thats whats helping her not itcha nd when she stops taking it we are back at square one.
I was on my way to switching her to NV Raw. So we started on the kibble as I was planning on doing rotaion of kibble and raw program they have. This was a month or so ago. It's possible she is reacting to the food??? I know its been a month but could she have been fighting off reaction until this point and her natrual histamines arent powerful enough??? The vet seemt o think its a good possibility and said go back to whatever food she did best on. Well that would be Merrick chicken pot pie. BUT here is another weord thing....We had chicken last sunday which is went this started. I did give some to Bella. Then we had the same type of chicken Sat. (marinated in italian dressing and griled on kabobs) and she had a horrible night and itching. So what the heck is going on???? PLease feel free to ask me anything that may help me figure this out!!!! I feel like I am looking right past something and I am giving her something to cause this!!! I hate it!
Oh as far as treats go I only give gerber fruit and veggie puffs and yo plus yogurt everyday and 2-3 time a week they get half a capsule of pet flora. No commercial treats AT ALL!!
for chewers they get a flossy once a week for 2-3 days then i throw them away. I was VERY well before giving them to them the second time with diluted bleach water and dry well. We dont take any chances with bacteria!
So please if you can figure this out or have similar situation let me know...Im going a wee bit crazy and trust me Im crazy enuff as it is!!!
