I started out my puppies with Innova EVO. It's a grain free and has pretty small kibbles. Then I was going to do like you mentioned...feed raw occasionally. After tasting the raw,they liked the raw better than the kibble. So I feed NV raw venison in the morning....kibble (Solid Gold, grain free) is down all day....and NV raw venison in the late afternoon. It seems like a perfect diet for my 6mo and 7mo old babies. I just recently found out that you can start infant puppies out on raw...that it's never too early. You just need to figure out how much according to your baby's weight. Good luck
