I am rather new at all this too my old dog is really old... 17 and my pup is just 6 months we got him at 8 weeks.
at first the old dog hated him and me, but now they are pals they even sleep together now. I think the pup has perked up my old buddy too just having him around her.
so that should just take time.

The potty training is still a challenge A BIG ONE!!!! We used an xpen and got a piece of plywood and a piece of remnant linoleum and glued it to the plywood then I took an old plastic table cloth and put it down first then the plywood then the pen. His crate was attached to the door on the side of the X pen with the door propped open so he could go in and out to use the pee pads when he needed to, but was still confined to his Xpen. We called it his "Condo". It worked great until he started jumping the X-pen, then I bought a top for it. but that is another story. LOL

I will try to find a picture of it and post it for you. It helped with his anxiety too because he was right in the family room with all of us and our old dog didn't have to be confined anymore so she didn't have any disruption in her routine... Well not much...lol.

hope this helps hang in there it gets better and is so worth it.
