Ok, I have my new 4 1/2 month old pup that is absolutely adorable and I have had him for about 3 days....I have a number of questions so if you can help me with any or all of them I would be so So SO grateful. Here goes:
1. I was hoping he would be a play companion for my 9 month old pup but so far when Derby (9 mos) tries to play with Jockey (4 1/2 mos) the pup just runs over to me to pick him up....which I don't do. Derby just wants to play but the pup doesn't....maybe it will just take time.
2. He was supposedly cloth pee pad trained but I don't have the cloth, I have the disposable and he doesn't pee on them....instead he chooses to pee on my hardwood floor, my walls, Derby's bed, the rug by the door....anywhere but on the pee pad. I don't have an x pen because I'm afraid it will scratch my floors, so I have him just in one room of my house. I feel bad for Derby because then he too is confined to that room.
3. When I leave the room....he barks and crys incessantly. His bark is unlike my other pups... Jockey's is very shrill and high pitched. I have started rewarding him (both of them) when he is quiet and slowly I think he is getting it but at the office, if I go out of sight and he is in the office with the glass door shut....the barking starts again.
4. Crate Training has been a real chore. I place him in the tiny small crate that he arrived in and give him a special treat and lots of praise. He then begins the crying/barking and the passed few nights it has gone well passed an hour, then he poops in the crate or pees and then I need to take him out and clean him and the crate up. And believe me, he had done his business, all of it just an hour or longer before. He had gone pee right before I put him in. I leave both he and Derby in their crates when I go to the gym for an hour in the morning and he is barking when I leave and when I return....poor Derby has to hear that for an hour while he is quiet in his crate. Argh!
He is sleeping on the clean pee pad right now. He just doesn't get it and I'm very frustrated. I need help, advice, remedies for making this work or I am literally going to pull my hair out.
Thank you in advance.
