My Peyton is trained to ring the bell when she goes out. We first started by purchasing a bell we attached fishing line on the bell and stuck it to hang on the banister before going to hang it on the door. She then knocked the bell out of curiosity and we said good girl you wanna go outside and go potty??? well lets go. I took the bell and put it on the back of the door as we went outside. I stayed out there until she went and then i praised her. When i would go and take her out i would go and have her ring the bell i would make her knock it with her nose (even if i moved it in front of her) And she eventually learned to ring it before she goes out. She is almost 2 years old now and she does it all the time... and if we don't listen to her she will knock the bell harder until you take her.
