I ask Loki if he wants a time out. He usually stops what he's doing (like chewing on his leash). If he runs or ignores me I go get him and put him in his crate for 10-15 minutes until he calms down. Sometimes I have to do this more than once but never more than 3 times before he behaves. Most of the time the treat of a time out is enough to get him to stop.
Before this works the dog has to know what a "time-out" is! When he is bad I say, "Time out!" when I pick him up and put him in his crate. You can't get mad, it's just an "OK you aren't behaving well enough to hang out with me right now" |
