Hmmm I'm not sure who I could ask for a personal reference. I've been out of school for two years and most of the instructors there were retiring that year, or close to retiring. The head of the program was my mentor for my final project but he rarely could remember my name, he was looking after so many students.
How would I bring it up to my office manager that I'd like him to be a reference? He does not want to let me go. He doesn't stop talking about how much I've done for the company in the past two years. I don't know how to say just out of nowhere "can you be my reference for another job?" Should I do it in person or is email okay? I feel so bad I'd probably cry in person
