You can do it on your own. 50lbs is not bad. To have the surgery they tend to have to be considered medically obese is what Mario told me. I feel so badly for him. He lost 40lbs since the surgery. He is very weak and in a ton of pain. He says he wishes he didn't do it. I know it's partially the pain speaking but it's definitely hard.
I think Mario told me it took a total of 8 months to get himself scheduled for it. He had to work with the dietitian and they charted what he ate and watched how he lost weight. They had him in the gym on a slow go of exercise. For him it didn't do a dang thing because he was pretty heavy..in excess of 250lbs.
Believe me maybe see a dietitian (your insurance will pay for that and you will only need a co-pay). It will give you a head start on revamping your eating habits and definitely show you what you can cut to lose weight. The biggest thing to cut is Soda and Sugars.
