Whew, glad that everything turned out okay. Hot Rod has trouble with "come" too. We've been working with him with recall and he's been pretty good with it. Every once in a while he will not listen, hubby either turns away or gets down and he then runs to him.
Another thing that we do if he is being wild, we tell him to "down" and he will lay down until we go to him to pick him up. That has worked everytime we've done that when we've needed to do it. Good luck.
