All I really know in my heart, is that housetraining would def. be a concern b/c regardless of how much you love an animal, you don't want your furniture or carpets trashed; but if I really cared about the dog (s), I'd figure out a way to make it work. It's usually up to you as to how successful it will be unless there's some physical or deep-seated psychological issue.
I think almost all dogs live to please their owner and I truly believe that they know when they are loved and being saved from a worse fate; so they'll try to make you proud of them; you just need to be very consistent and PRESENT (at least when you're home) and let them know what is right and what is not. I agree. Are you home through the day? Do you have a fenced yard? It sounds like you like the dogs and you want what's best for them. With a lot of love and patience, I think you could do it.
