I'm here most of the day so it's a little easier for me to keep opening the door and saying "wanna go potty outside?"....and if they need to go, they do...if not, they don't. Maybe it's more like they have ME trained.

All I really know in my heart, is that housetraining would def. be a concern b/c regardless of how much you love an animal, you don't want your furniture or carpets trashed; but if I really cared about the dog (s), I'd figure out a way to make it work. It's usually up to you as to how successful it will be unless there's some physical or deep-seated psychological issue.
I think almost all dogs live to please their owner and I truly believe that they know when they are loved and being saved from a worse fate; so they'll try to make you proud of them; you just need to be very consistent and PRESENT (at least when you're home) and let them know what is right and what is not. Good luck to you; it sounds like you are a very responsible and compassionate owner
Good answer. I agree. Are you home through the day? Do you have a fenced yard? It sounds like you like the dogs and you want what's best for them. With a lot of love and patience, I think you could do it.
