Every time you take them "outside", you pick them up and tap the bell with their paw and say "OUTSIDE". For the 1st week or so, he would try & wiggle out, but I still would tap his paw and tell him good boy. In the last few days, he was not as afraid of it, so I started with treats. I wouldn't give him one unless he did it. He wanted the treat and started scratching the ground like he was going to ring it. With a little more encouragement, he did it. Now I am telling him everytime he scratches me to go out, to "ring the bell". He knows how to do it now, so I won't take him out til he rings it!!!
My other one Gabby hits it with her chin when she is going for the treat. She really doesn't know what she is doing yet, but she wants a treat too!!!
