Sorry to hear about his problem. I would suggest that you just take a poop sample in to your vet for check. Then, you can still spend the money for a vet visit. I don't mean to say you don't have money, it is just that you do not need to expose him to the sickies in a vet's office unless absolutely necessary.
Also, do not use dairy products, like Yogurt or cottage cheese. Lactose intolerance can sound as you have described. BeneBac or acidophilus powder can be of help sometimes. But, again an herb is still a medicine and your vet should sign off on it/them.
IBS and grain sensitivities are similar in symptoms. Maybe, duck and potato food would be a possibility.. As I said, let your vet make the final decisions on his treatment. Good Luck!!!!
