Congratulations on getting the new puppy, how exciting for you, I agree a puppy needs his own crate, but it doesn't need to be a big one if he will graduate to your bed anyway, and sometimes the smaller ones are better for training anyway. Joey's crate was so big that he would just poop on one end and sleep on the other end, so we starting letting him sleep in his car-seat bed, which was much smaller, and this helped with training. Soon he was ready for our bed. Eight months seems like a perfect time to introduce a new puppy, and Derby will probably help his little brother with the potty training.
